Hollow Tree Honey Volunteer Program

🌼 Introducing the Hollow Tree Honey Foundation Volunteer Program

Growing Community, One Garden at a Time!

This Earth Day, we’re reminded that caring for the planet doesn’t have to start with something big or far away. It can begin right outside your front door, with a single garden, a conversation with a neighbor, or a small act of stewardship that grows into something meaningful.

At Hollow Tree Honey Foundation, we believe that restoring pollinator habitats is about more than planting flowers. It’s about rebuilding ecosystems and reconnecting communities. That’s why we’re so excited to officially launch our Volunteer Program a flexible, community-driven initiative designed to empower individuals to make a real impact where they live.

🌿 Our Vision

Our goal is simple: make it easy for anyone to help pollinators thrive.

By planting pollinator gardens and spreading awareness about native bees, we can transform neighborhoods into safe, nourishing habitats. And by doing it together, we create stronger, more connected communities along the way.

Volunteers are at the heart of this effort helping us reach more homes, support more gardens, and grow our impact in a meaningful, grassroots way.

🌸 How the Program Works

We’ve created flexible volunteer opportunities so you can get involved in a way that fits your time, interests, and energy.

Neighborhood Pollinator Leads

Community organizers and connectors

Pollinator Leads help bring the program to life at the local level. They serve as a bridge between their neighborhood and the foundation.

In this role, volunteers:

  • Connect with neighbors and share information about pollinator gardens

  • Distribute flyers and invite participation

  • Communicate with interested households

  • Help coordinate and schedule garden installations

  • Stay in touch with the foundation for support and resources

This role is ideal for those who enjoy building relationships and organizing community efforts.

Garden Installation Volunteers

Hands-on support for planting days

Garden Installation Volunteers help physically install pollinator gardens.

In this role, volunteers:

  • Assist with planting and setup

  • Help with basic site preparation when needed

  • Support Neighborhood Leads during garden installations

No experience is required just a willingness to learn and help.

🌱 Flexible by Design

We know everyone’s availability is different, so this program is built to be flexible and volunteer-driven.

  • Some volunteers may set personal goals, like helping install a certain number of gardens

  • Others may contribute seasonally, such as during the summer

  • Many will simply join when they can and support projects as they arise

Whether you participate occasionally or take on a leadership role, your contribution matters.

💛 Building a Positive Community

We’re creating a volunteer experience rooted in shared purpose and mutual respect.

We ask volunteers to:

  • Show up when they commit

  • Communicate clearly if plans change

  • Be kind, welcoming, and collaborative

  • Represent the foundation with positivity and inclusivity

Above all, we want this to feel fun, meaningful, and community-centered.

🌞 What to Expect on Garden Days

Garden installations are simple, rewarding, and collaborative.

  • Most projects take between 30 minutes to 2 hours

  • Events are scheduled based on homeowner availability (often evenings or weekends)

  • Volunteers work together to complete each garden

We provide all plants, compost, and tools. Volunteers just bring:

  • Water and snacks

  • Weather-appropriate clothing

  • Closed-toe shoes and gloves

💬 Communication & Getting Started

We use Slack to coordinate all volunteer activities and keep everyone connected.

  • Neighborhood Leads work directly with the Executive Director (Seneca LaCroix)

  • Garden volunteers join project-specific channels to sign up for installs
